How do our lessons work?

We provide weekly 30 minute long lessons, in groups of 3. Using our Bronze, Silver and Gold workbooks - unique to Primary Piano. Children earn awards which are presented in school, as they learn their initial skills. Once complete they will begin working towards a formal grade 1 exam if they wish.

How can I support
my child?

We recommend that children have an instrument at home so they can practice regularly, as this really helps with developing their motor skills and maintaining momentum in their learning. Your child’s workbook also includes a practice diary that the teacher will update each week, giving you a simple way to see their progress and stay in touch with their teacher.

What’s the difference between Keyboard & Piano?

In the early stages, learning music notation and developing the necessary motor skills are the same for both piano and electric keyboard. After your child achieves their Gold Award, they can choose to continue with either Piano or Keyboard for their Grade 1 exam and beyond. Their teacher will be happy to guide you and help decide which option will best suit your child.

How do we pay tuition fees?

Our fees are calculated on a termly basis, depending on the number of weeks in each upcoming term. Invoices are issued at the start of each term (six times a year) and are processed automatically through GoCardless, a secure and convenient platform that makes payments simple and reliable. This way, you only ever pay for the lessons your child actually receives.

What should I look for when buying  instrument ?

When choosing a piano or keyboard for a child, it’s important to select an instrument that is comfortable to play and supports proper technique. For acoustic or digital pianos, weighted keys that replicate the feel of a traditional piano are ideal, while keyboards should have touch-sensitive keys rather than very light or springy ones. Other helpful features include a built-in metronome or headphone jack to support practice.

My child has finished their Gold award; what next?

At this stage, your child has developed the fundamental skills necessary to begin preparing for a formal examination, should they wish to do so. After achieving their Gold Award, we will contact you to discuss whether they would like to specialise in Piano or Keyboard as they progress toward their Grade 1 exam. We offer examinations through two highly respected boards, ABRSM and Trinity College London, both of which provide excellent pathways to further strengthen your child’s musical foundation.
